Activities and Events | Corporal Works of Mercy
Students at the school have been giving of
themselves by performing numerous corporal
works of mercy in the local community. Students
brought to school canned foods to support the
annual Thanksgiving Food Drive sponsored by the
St. Vincent de Paul Society of the Holy Cross
Parish. More than fifty pounds of food was
collected to be included in the food baskets
for meals once the turkey and "fixins" were
eaten.
In addition, students in grades 5-8 assembled Thanksgiving table favors for the local Meals on Wheels food program. Thanksgiving cards were written with prayers and decorated with colorful seasonal pictures. A Religion class was devoted to assembling Nature Seeded ornaments. Fifty gift bags were decorated, filled with goodies, and then delivered to the local Meals on Wheels site for distribution to meal recipients.
When the local radio station, WLVB, requested letters from the community to be sent to soldiers overseas, fifth grade stepped forward and wrote heart-felt thank you letters. Each of the letters was read on the radio as a special tribute for Veterans' Day. Students wrote wonderful messages and created beautiful artwork to remind the soldiers of home. They will be included in care packages that will be sent from Vermont to soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan through the "Adopt-A-Soldier" program. We received a thank you letter from the radio station. They wrote, " Thank you. Sometimes we are made to believe that students don't know or care about what's going on in the world. You have shown that you not only know, but that you care very, very much."
