Distance Learning Underway!
The directive for a school-wide dismissal was determined by the Vermont Department of Health, the Agency of Education, and the Diocese of Burlington, and as of today, remains in effect through the remainder of the school year. This timeline could be adjusted as the situation warrants.
BJAMS was ready for distance learning for students in grades K-8 when the initial directive from Bishop Coyne and Governor Scott was announced on March 15th. We shared a step-by-step guide for parents on how to access online learning through Google Classroom (via email and hard copy on March 13th), and we began working with students at that time as well. Large bins were set up by teachers in front of the school building for the exchange of classwork and materials during this dismissal period as necessary. We were committed to continuing learning from the first official day of distance learning, March 19th, not just maintaining skills. BJAMS teachers continue to teach remotely utilizing tools in Google Classroom and Zoom. Assignments are posted by 8:00 AM each day in Google Classroom. Distance learning will conclude on June 9th. Teachers are still recording grades; distance learning is not optional and attendance is required.
The school is currently closed and only open to essential staff only.
How are we staying connected with our BJAMS community?
Information on Meals during School Dismissal:
We have been approved to provide breakfast and lunch for ALL students 18 and under, free of charge.* Families need to sign up for meals through Ren Web preferably the night before so we prepare an accurate number of meals (click here for directions); labeled meals will be on a cart outside of the main entrance of the school on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 7:30 AM – 9:00 AM. There is no menu for these grab-and-go meals – think of it as a fun surprise! The contact for meal provision is Heather Gentle and she can be reached at 888-4758 ext. 235 or at email@example.com.
We will have a few extra meals prepared, in case a family forgets to pre-order. If traveling to BJAMS to retrieve meals presents a challenge, please be advised that families may retrieve meals from their local schools, no questions asked. Please contact your local district, as their pick-up schedule may differ from ours.
* This institution is an equal opportunity provider.
